Marriage Certificate

Any person listed on the certificate may request it, provided they are at least 18 years old, as well as the person’s father, mother, children, grandchildren, grandparents, legal representative, or heirs. Documents are required to verify the applicant’s identity and relationship to the person listed on the certificate.

You must present a valid photo ID, such as an official ID card or passport.

Since 1885, under the former Civil Registry, although there may be exceptions depending on the record and the available information.

The current version is green and has been in use since July 2010.

A standard certificate is usually sufficient for most procedures. The full or “extended” certificate includes additional information for special procedures, such as Spanish citizenship, correction of errors, or a name change.

The processing time for a standard certificate depends on the service you choose at checkout (business days):

1. Normal: 15 days
2. Fast: 10 days
3. Urgent: 5 days

Marriages that took place 100 years or more ago may take up to 30 calendar days.

It takes 15 business days to issue a certified copy.

Requesting a certificate does not correct errors or change names. If the certificate contains incorrect information, there are discrepancies between documents, or you wish to change a name, please see our Name Change or Correction service.

We do not conduct genealogical research. Please consult FamilySearch or other sources.
