More about the Death Certificate
What type of Death Certificate do you process?
Almost always, the "normal", or "short" Death Certificate is the only one required. However, if you would like to know additional information, such as the name of the informant or the Social Security number (which sometimes appears), then you may request the "long" or "verbatim" Death Certificate. This option will appear at the time you pay for your order.
Since when are there records in the Registry?
The Demographic Registry of Puerto Rico began in 1931. However, they have many records from 1885 to 1931, from the stage known as the "Registro Civil". Prior to 1885 there is no documentation, but you could go to the parish or church of the town of birth to verify the baptismal records. Also, if necessary, you can search the databases at FamilySearch.org or Ancestry.com. If your case is pre-1885, we regret that we will not be able to assist you.
How long does the process take and what does the shipping look like?
Normal processing time is 10 working days . We also have an "express" or "super express" service(5 or 3 business days, respectively), for an additional cost at checkout.
In addition, the shipping time (i.e., the time it takes for the mail to arrive) will depend on the mail service you choose ("Priority" or "Express"). We ship anywhere in the world. For PR or USA, we use the federal mail system ("US Postal Service"). International shipments are through FedEx® or UPS®.
It is important to note that deaths can take about two (2) months to be registered, counted from the date of death.
In what languages is the Death Certificate issued?
This Certificate is automatically issued in both Spanish and English.
Can errors in the Certificate be corrected?
Yes, we can correct errors, but through this other link: Certificate Correction.
