Description
What does this service include?
This individual product includes the processing of two official certifications related to wills in Puerto Rico:
- Certification from the Registry of Wills.
- Certification from the General Registry of Notarial Competencies.
We review the information and documents provided, prepare the necessary applications, handle the applicable requirements, and follow up on the process.
These certifications are used to verify registry information related to possible wills executed by a person who died in Puerto Rico.
⚠️ Important: These certifications do not include a copy of a will or disclose its contents. If it turns out that a will exists, obtaining a certified copy may require additional steps with the notary who authorized it or with the relevant notarial archive.
Who is eligible to request this service separately?
The applicant must demonstrate a legitimate interest. Typically, an heir or potential heir, a widower or widow, a beneficiary, or a person who legally represents any of these individuals may file the application.
This product is suitable for those who only need the certifications, without hiring someone to handle the entire estate at this time.
Requirements for Applying for Certifications
- Death Certificate: This is required to begin the process. If the person died in Puerto Rico and you do not have a copy, you can request one here.
- Valid photo ID: for the applicant.
- A document proving your relationship or legitimate interest: for example, a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or other relevant document. If you need any of these documents, you can request a birth certificate or a marriage certificate.
- Documents that list the deceased person's name: especially if there are variations in the name, initials, middle name, additional last names, abbreviations, or minor errors.
You can upload, for example, a property deed, vehicle title, bank statement, bank certificate, insurance policy, contract, registry document, or any other document that includes the name of the deceased person.
If an institution provided you with specific instructions, please upload them or indicate them in the notes section of your order.
