Search for a Will in Puerto Rico

Who is eligible to search with us?

• The testator and the heirs or beneficiaries following the testator's death.
• A copy of a Will cannot be obtained if the testator is still alive, unless authorized in writing.

Requirements for the search:

• Death Certificate:
  • Required to start the search.
  • If you do not have it, we can obtain it here, if the person died in Puerto Rico.
• Additional documents according to relationship with the deceased:
  • Children: at the time of ordering, you must upload your Birth Certificate.
  • Widowed: at the time of ordering, you must upload your Marriage Certificate.

If you already have information from the Will:

• We can confirm if the document is the last one granted, with the following data:
  • Deed number.
  • Date.
  • Name of attorney.

What does the search include?

1. Certification of Will:
   • We searched the Register of Wills and the General Register of Notarial Competence.
   • If there is no Will, a Negative Certification is issued.
2. Request for a certified copy (if there is a Will):
   • We contacted the lawyer who authorized the Will.
   • If the lawyer is not available, it is handled at the Notarial Archives.
