More about the Certificate of Divorce
The Certificate of Divorce is an official document from the Demographic Registry of Puerto Rico that certifies that you are divorced. This Certificate is usually required if you are getting married abroad, in addition to the Birth Certificate.
Just in case, the Divorce Certificate is only available if the marriage was in PR. That is, if you were married outside of PR, but divorced here, then you can only order a Certified Copy of the Judgment. If you were married outside of PR, then there is no registered marriage in the Demographic Registry. On the other hand, if you have never been married or divorced in PR, then you can apply for what is known as a Certificate of Single Status.
What is supposed to happen when a person gets divorced in PR?
When a person gets divorced in PR, the court is supposed to automatically send the Judgment to the Demographic Registry so that it can be duly registered.
However, it is important to clarify that in the past this procedure sometimes did not occur. Therefore, even if you have been married and divorced in PR, there is a small probability that the divorce has not been registered in the Demographic Registry. In the exceptional case that this happens, you should take a Certified Copy of the Judgment to the Demographic Registry, so that they can then issue the Certificate of Divorce.
How long does it take and how does it work?
Normal processing time is 10 working days . We also have an "express" or "super express" service(5 or 3 business days, respectively), for an additional cost at checkout.
In addition, the shipping time (i.e., the time it takes for the mail to arrive) will depend on the mail service you choose ("Priority" or "Express"). We ship anywhere in the world. For PR or USA, we use the federal mail system ("US Postal Service"). International shipments are through FedEx® or UPS®.
What can I do if I do not have a copy of the Judgment?
It is recommended that after you place your order on this page, you email us a copy of the Judgment. If you do not have a copy of the Judgment, we can still process your Divorce Certificate, but there is a small chance that your divorce was not registered in the Demographic Registry.
On the other hand, if you just need a copy of your Divorce Decree (not the Certificate), then you can order it under a Certified Copy. However, the Judgment takes much longer to obtain, up to 30 days. Finally, if you were married in PR but divorced abroad, you will need to add to your order what is known as an Exequatur, which is a process to validate the Judgment.
What if I don't remember the details of my divorce?
If you don't remember information such as the date or the town where you got divorced, don't worry. With the information you will fill in at the time of payment, we will be able to locate your records.
In what language is this Certificate issued?
This Certificate is officially issued in Spanish only. However, if necessary, an English translation, certified by an attorney, can be added to your order at an additional cost.

Request three certificates, including the divorce certificate, and apostilles for each one. Mr. Olivencia got them and apostilled them in an efficient and professional way. I thank you for your great experience and knowledge which were remarkable. He was always courteous and kept me up to date throughout the process. I am very happy and satisfied-highly recommended.
