- Official document from the Demographic Registry certifying a divorce in Puerto Rico.
- Required to get married abroad, but if you have never been married in PR, then you can only apply for the Certificado de Soltería.
Right to request
- Persons of legal age, for themselves, or their legal representatives, custodians, guardians, or heirs.
Availability
- Only if the marriage occurred in Puerto Rico.
- If the marriage occurred outside PR, but divorced here, you will only be able to obtain a certified copy of the judgment.
Procedure after a Divorce
- The court is supposed to have automatically sent the divorce decree to the Demographic Registry of Puerto Rico.
- Exceptions: If the above did not occur, and the divorce was not registered, a certified copy of the judgment will have to be taken to the Demographic Registry. This happens in a few cases, so as soon as we know that the divorce was not registered, we will inform you by email.

- Don't worry, with the information provided at the time of payment, we can almost always locate the records.
Language
- Officially issued in Spanish.
- You can add an English translation certified by a lawyer.
Processing and shipping time
- Regular: 10 working days, plus shipping time.
- Urgent: 3 to 5 working days, plus shipping time.
- Shipping: The cost is automatically calculated according to the address provided when ordering. To USA and PR are by federal mail, and international via FedEx® or UPS®.

In his case, having married outside of PR but divorced in PR, without having the exact date of the divorce, it did not appear in the system. This can happen on exceptional occasions and is beyond our control as we rely on government agencies to find the information.
