Description
Apostille
What is an Apostille?
An Apostille is a government certification that is added to legalize a document so that it can be valid abroad. In the case of Puerto Rico, if you are going to use the document in the United States or PR, you do not need the Apostille.
For example, if you have a Birth Certificate from Puerto Rico that you are going to use in another country, for example, in Mexico, then you will have to add the Apostille. In other words, in order for the Certificate to be valid outside Puerto Rico or the United States, it is required to add the Apostille.
Can original documents or copies be apostilled?
- Certificates from the PR Demographic Registry: only originals originals (i.e. no electronic copies). This way, you can be sure that you will not have problems in the country where you will use your documents.
- Criminal Record Certificate: the electronic copy is sufficient.
- Diplomas or Transcripts: these documents require that we first obtain an additional Certification, usually issued by the Department of State, at an extra cost that will be added at the time of ordering. Just in case, as for the Diploma, only the copy is apostilled, not the original.
- Private Documents: you are required to also add an Affidavit to your order and then send us the original, and a copy, to the mailing address that will appear on the screen after payment.
- Judgments: only the Certified Copy (with the original Internal Revenue Service stamps at the end of the document).
What do I do if I already have the document?
If you already have the document you need to apostille, just place your order by clicking "Add to Cart" above. After payment, if the document to be apostilled requires you to send us the original, as listed above, you will automatically see on the screen the mailing address where you should send it to us.
If it is a PR Demographic Registry Certificate, and it is already in your hands, it is important that it has an Issue Date of July 1, 2010 on wards. However, if you wish to preserve the Certificate you already have in your possession (for any possible future use), then you can add a new one to your order.
If it is any other document, check first at the top of this page to see if it is on the list of documents to which an Apostille can be applied. If in doubt, please send us a message through our contact page.
What if I don't have the document to apostille?
If you do not have the document to be apostilled, then you must add it to your order, in case it is a Certificate from the Demographic Registry of Puerto Rico.
If it is a different document that we can obtain, such as a judgment from a Puerto Rico court, then you must also add a Certified Copy to your order.
How long does the process take and what does the shipping look like?
Normal processing time is 10 working days . We also have an "express" or "super express" service(5 or 3 business days, respectively), for an additional cost at checkout.
In addition, the shipping time (i.e., the time it takes for the mail to arrive) will depend on the mail service you choose ("Priority" or "Express"). We ship anywhere in the world. For PR or USA, we use the federal mail system ("US Postal Service"). International shipments are through FedEx® or UPS®.
In what language(s) and format are Apostilles issued?
This document is automatically issued in both languages (Spanish and English). In Puerto Rico, the Apostille is issued only in printed paper. However, if you wish to add the additional option of having the document sent to you in electronic format, in addition to the printed one, you may choose to do so at the time of payment.

Hello Melvin. We do offer this option but the customer must request it when placing the order. However, remember that for the Apostille, it is only officially valid with the printed document.
