Checklist of Documents and General Requirements for Inheritances in Puerto Rico

1) Of the deceased

• Death Certificate (PR, new format post-July 2010)
• Marriage Certificate or Divorce Decree (if applicable)
• Social Security Number and last address
• Bank statements as of the date of death
  One PDF per institution.
• Will (if any)

2) From each heir (children and widow/widower)

• Birth Certificate (PR, new format post-July 2010)
• Photo identification (license or passport, valid)
• Social Security Number (required by CRIM)
• Full name, marital status, email address and mailing address
• Occupation

3) Real estate in Puerto Rico (if applicable)

• Property address and cadastre/CRIM number (if known)
• Bill of sale/title deed (if available)
• Recent CRIM invoice

4) Accounts and assets (if applicable)

• Account statements (bank, investment, retirement) at date of death
• Vehicles: title/registration (if applicable)
• Life insurance policies (copy and beneficiary designation, if applicable)

5) Delivery and format

• Clear and readable PDFs, one file per document
• Avoid blurred, cropped or incomplete images
• You can use scanning apps (e.g. CamScanner) or copy centers.
